Hey everyone!

Hope you’re all having a fantastic Wednesday. For those that celebrate Christmas I hope you did better than me this year and didn’t wait last minute to do your shopping! Thankfully, it all managed to work out and I got everything that I needed to get. Now, lets get on to the topic for today!

I went to go see Spiderman: No Way Home yesterday and I’ve got to say it was amazing. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil anything, though I will give my thoughts on the film, the viewing experience, and discuss some of my thoughts on the MCU. First, I would like to say I got spoiled before I was able to watch the film and that was irritating to say the least but at least it meant I was able to enjoy the reaction of the audience which is a positive experience. If you haven’t had the chance to step back and watch people’s reactions, I recommend you do so. There really is something magical about how a piece of entertainment can elicit such strong emotions in such a vast number of people. It may sound strange but for me it gives me the chills every time (in a good way). The theater was absolutely packed too, which I find can either enhance an experience or ruin it, depending on who’s in the audience.

On the experience of the film, again, I thought it was amazing. I loved the acting of everyone in the film, Willem Dafoe stands out the most for me. It looked like everyone was having a blast with making the film which means they’re bringing their A game. The soundtrack was good, I even have one of the tunes on my phone and can’t stop listening to it because it and the scene it plays in is just so beautiful. I felt that there was some great character development for Peter Parker in the film and the film did a great job investing me in the character. That last part may seem strange for me to say, and I’ll admit I didn’t watch the first two films, they didn’t interest me, but I know what happens in them. This also connects nicely with my next point.

The MCU has made some amazing feats, Infinity War and Endgame were undoubtedly some of the best pieces of cinema I’ve seen. However, ever since those movies I haven’t been interested in anything superhero related. I couldn’t find interest in any of Marvel’s other movies and shows that came out this year aside from Spiderman. There were other superhero films I didn’t and still haven’t seen beforehand. As far as I can see it really seems like superhero movies need to change up the formula because the alternative is trying to keep making bigger spectacles to attract viewers and that simply isn’t sustainable.

Well, I’ve talked enough, and I think I should wrap things up now. If you saw Spiderman: No Way Home I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any thoughts on about the MCU changing up their formula let me know in a comment. Also, if you have any recommended films for me to watch feel free to leave them in a comment too. Happy holidays and merry Christmas!

Best,

Aaron Kirby
