Hey Everyone,
Hope you all had a happy Monday and a great start to the week! I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who showed their support and stopped by the website after I announced it on my social media. So, thank you! Also, please feel free to post a comment, I would love to hear any feedback you might have on my work. Now, without further ado let’s jump into the post!
Has anyone played tabletop games? Monopoly, Sorry! and plenty of other board games count, at least by my record. Of course, the holy grail for me is Pathfinder. For those who aren’t really into tabletop gaming, Pathfinder is a tabletop role playing game, if you’ve heard of Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder is pretty much that but better. And yes, I am being biased. I won’t diss D&D too much though, I’m aware of its upsides and my advice is to experiment and play what you like. I could also go into the different editions of the games, but I’ve watched people’s eyes glaze over when talking about them in person so I will spare you the details, my dear readers. Usually, it is not a new game every session and can be played out over a long time which is called a campaign.
The real magic for me is in the storytelling, how the players take part in the story, and how their actions shape the world that they play in. It’s a fun mix of written story and adlib that can lead to some great creative outcomes or some funny interactions. I love being the “Game Master,” there’s something about being able to entertain my players and give them an adventure to play with as they see fit. My players always manage to come up with something that takes me by surprise and it’s a great experience.
While Pathfinder was my gateway to tabletop gaming in my adult years and I cherish the game, I do have other games that I find a great time as well. The card game Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards is always fun, I also love a good game of Carcassonne, Pandemic and Letters from Whitechapel. In Epic Spell Wars you craft wacky spells to annihilate your fellow wizards on the field of battle. It’s even more fun when you and your friends have a few drinks in you (drink responsibly and stay hydrated my friends). Letters from Whitechapel is a board game version of hide and seek based on the Jack the Ripper murders. I enjoy it for being able to play cat and mouse and mind gaming the detective players to make them think I’m on one side of the board when I’m really on the other side.
Well, I think I’ve gushed over tabletop enough for one post. If you get the chance to pick up or even just play one of the games I listed, go for it! If any of you have any recommended games for me to try out, let me know in the comments.
Best,
Aaron Kirby
